Deux personnes que j'ai beaucoup aimé et qui me manquent.</div><div style="text-align: justify;">Léonard Manderveld est né aux Pays-Bas en 1916, à un jet de pierre des Fourons. Son père était boulanger et comptait de nombreux belges parmi sa clientèle. Il étudie l'architecture à l'Académie Saint-Luc à Liège.</div><div style="text-align: justify;">Agréé aux pays-Bas, Léonard travaille dans le secteur du caoutchouc: il dessine des projets de pneus... Après un court intermède à la ville de Maastricht, il est engagé par un grand entrepreneur pour la réalisation de champs d'aviation. Il sera aussi chargé de dessiner les lignes haute-tension Liège-Bruxelles et Bruxelles-Anvers.</div><div style="text-align: justify;">Après la guerre, il est choisi pour réaliser les plans d'un nouveau charbonnage au Limbourg belge. Il travaille ensuite pour le Baron Empain en Afrique.</div><div style="text-align: justify;">Quelques années avant la retraite, Léonard avait construit, suivant ses propres plans, une maison en bordure du village de Roly. C'est là que va éclore sa passion pour les châteaux.</div><div style="text-align: justify;">Il s'est d'abord intéressé au château de Roly (lequel était occupé par mes grand-parents paternels). Il l'a photographié sous tous les angles. Il a même été jusqu'à mesurer certaines pierres pour les reproduire à l'échelle.</div><div style="text-align: justify;">Résultat: de superbes plans au 1/50ème, un livre consacré à l'histoire du château et une maquette réalisée à la même échelle. </div><div style="text-align: justify;">Pris par cet étrange virus, Léonard va étendre progressivement son champ d'action, faisant renaître sous les traits précis de sa plume quantité de châteaux. Plusieurs livres seront publiés.</div><div style="text-align: justify;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: justify;">C'est un peu grâce à mon grand-père si j'ai pris ces directions dans ma vie professionnelle. Je me souviens de sa précision et de sa patience lorsqu'il travaillait. Cela m'impressionnait beaucoup lorsque j'étais jeune. Il m'a transmis son goût pour les belles choses, pour le patrimoine, l'art et l'histoire. A une époque de sa vie, il a réalisé quelques peintures. Je pense très souvent à lui quand je travaille. J'aurais aimé lui faire partager à mon tour mon univers; il aurait apprécié...</div><div style="text-align: justify;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: justify;">Son épouse, ma grand-mère, est née Rita Blattner, une suissesse devenue belge après avoir porté la nationalité néerlandaise. Mère au foyer, elle s'est occupée de leurs cinq enfants. Mais elle était aussi couturière.
